“I want families to know that I lead with curiosity and a deep belief in each child’s and family’s strengths. I see every child as capable, unique, and full of potential, and I don’t expect families to have everything figured out.”

I’m Hannah Coo, It’s so nice to meet you! I am a Registered Speech-Language Pathologist.

I am passionate about supporting children and families through play-based, relationship-focused care that fosters connection, communication, and growth. I believe deeply in building trusting relationships, honouring each child's uniqueness, and letting meaningful, child-led interactions be the foundation for everything we do together.

How did I get started in this field?

My journey to behavior analysis is a classic one.

My path to speech-language pathology began nearly ten years ago when I was working as a behaviour interventionist. Through close collaboration with several SLPs, I quickly fell in love with the work and the profound difference that communication-focused support can make in a child's and family's life. I knew I had found my calling.

But it was discovering DIRFloortime® that truly shaped the clinician I am today.

Early in my practice, I found myself unsettled by more traditional, rigid therapy approaches, they often led to moments of dysregulation and disconnection that didn't sit right with me. I knew something was missing, but I wasn't sure what the alternative looked like. Then I was introduced to DIRFloortime®, and everything clicked.

Why DIRFloortime® works

DIRFloortime®'s focus on following a child's lead, honouring each person's unique way of being, and building relationships through shared joy and trust aligned completely with how I believe children and families grow best. It isn't about "fixing" anyone. It's about understanding each child's strengths, building genuine connection, and supporting growth in ways that feel meaningful, respectful, and authentic. Since then, my practice has been rooted in these relationship-based principles, and I continue to approach my work with a commitment to always knowing better and doing better for the families I support.

My Education

BSc, Speech Sciences

My clinical training took me to some extraordinary places and taught me lessons that no classroom could.

My first placement brought me to the Yukon, where I had the privilege of working alongside Indigenous families and travelling to remote Northern communities — including a memorable drive along the 112 km gravel road from Dease Lake to Telegraph Creek through the stunning Grand Canyon of the Stikine. Being so warmly welcomed into those schools and communities deeply shaped my understanding of culturally responsive care and the importance of honouring each family's values, priorities, and ways of knowing.

Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology

My second placement was at the Centennial Centre for Mental Health and Brain Injury, a specialized inpatient program supporting individuals with complex neurological conditions and brain injuries. It was a humbling experience that reinforced the importance of compassion, dignity, and truly meeting people where they are.

For my third and fourth placements, I worked with Vancouver Coastal Health — first in a public health clinic supporting children aged 0 to 5, and then alongside two Indigenous preschools in East Vancouver, providing relationship-based support within children's own community settings.
