3 ABA Podcasts that Influenced My Career

2019 was the year I became a BCBA (Board-Certified Behaviour Analyst).

There was so much growth that needed to happen in a short period of time and these beautiful souls helped me in discovering who I was going to be as a Behavior Analyst/Human Being. To this day, I listen to these podcasts on the regular and have been inspired to jump on the podcasting train myself with my wonderful sister Megan Shallow of BNL Social.

I started 2019 off by studying for the exam and found myself overwhelmed with not being able to keep up with the field as well as motivate myself to begin my business journey. I turned to Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) podcasts for comic relief, education, and professional growth and it truly changed my world!

Here are my top 3 ABA podcasts:

1.
Behavior Bitches

Liat and Casey are a duo of fun-loving hilarious women keeping it real in the world of behavior analysis. They break down behavior concepts to allow for easily digestible content while also refreshing my skills and keeping me on my toes. When I am listening to the episodes, I am laughing out loud constantly on my walks, in my car, or at the gym. My favourite episode by far is the one where they talk about serial killers and the functions of their behavior... mind blowing! This podcast is great for some comic relief while also generalizing your knowledge of ABA to everyday situations!

Liat and Casey are inspiring for many young women in the behavior analytic community - even my mom and sister have jumped on board for a few episodes!

2.
Behavioral Observations

Matt brings the most influential people on his show and keeps us up to date on all of the most recent happenings in the field! He is also known as the “Grandfather” of ABA podcasting. He has invited some heavy hitters, from Dr. Greg Hanley, Steve Hayes, Megan Miller, Amanda Kelly, and MORE! If you are looking to brush up on your behavior analytic skills as well as get to know some of the most influential people in our field and beyond this is the must-listen podcast!

I am always learning something new and feel so connected with our field when I turn this one on. His show is perfect for those long drives or even for those last few CEUs (continuing education units)!

3.
ABA Inside Track

Rob, Diana, and Jackie are the ULTIMATE article breakdown-ers! They go through the actual articles, review them and chunk it into bite-size pieces for their listeners. I found their method to be so helpful that it changed the way I look at the research. If you feel like you have no time to read JABA or those articles because, of course, you are busy being a BCBA or student - then this podcast is for you.

My favourite episode was Episode 32 with Dr. Sandy Jin! In this episode, she talked about her research on sleep (which I love!!) and how she has helped families. She also explained sleep through a behaviour-analytic lens, and of course, I was hooked!

They also offer CEUs - which means you can maintain your credential while you are driving! Gah, so many things to love and I cannot say enough but I’ll stop here.

During this pandemic, and being stuck at home, podcasts have allowed me to feel connected with so many people while also keeping my skills fresh and current. To all these podcasters, THANK YOU for showing up and being you. This field is a better place because of it!

I hope this message was helpful and you too find joy in the world of podcasting. I promise you won't regret it!

xoxo Nicole
