Hi, I'm Souzy
SENIOR BEHAVIOUR INTERVENTIONIST · MAPLE RIDGE, BC
I believe that every individual deserves the opportunity to live a meaningful and fulfilling life. I'm passionate about advocating for individuals with special needs, empowering families through education and collaboration, and contributing to improved quality of life through thoughtful, evidence-based behavioural support.
“I love working with children and making a positive difference in their lives.””
Beyond the office
I'm a mom of two boys, one studying at UBC Vancouver and the other heading to UBC Okanagan this fall. Outside of work, I'm deeply involved in my community: I teach a Sunday school kindergarten class, volunteer with seniors, and support individuals with special needs in my neighbourhood. I have a big love for animals, especially dogs, and you'll often find me watching soccer or spending time with the people who matter most to me, family, friends, and my church community. These connections give me a strong sense of belonging and remind me every day why the work I do matters.
My Story
-
My path started in early childhood education, first as an ECE, and then as a Preschool Supervisor, where I spent years supporting children in structured learning environments while leading and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams. Through that work, I developed a deep understanding of child development, behaviour, and the importance of family-centred care. But it was my experience with children with autism in those settings that pushed me further. I had children I genuinely cared about and wanted to support more fully, and I simply didn't yet have the tools to do it. That gap is what led me to pursue specialization in behavioural support, so I could show up for those children and families the way they deserved.
-
When I was teaching preschool, I worked with a small number of children with autism who I was deeply invested in. I could see their potential clearly, but I knew I didn't have the knowledge or resources to fully meet their needs. That experience stayed with me. I made a decision then to go back and build the expertise that would allow me to actually make a difference, not just be present for it.
My Approach
-
I love working with young children with autism in the areas that shape their everyday lives, communication, social interaction, play skills, feeding, and academic readiness. My biggest goal is simple: to see each child grow, day by day. I find this work deeply meaningful because the progress is real, it touches the whole family, and every small win matters. I also prioritize parent coaching heavily, because I know that the strategies families carry home with them are what truly sustain a child's progress over time.
-
What makes my approach different is that I'm not just a professional walking into your home, I'm part of the same community. I have sat where many of the parents I support are sitting right now. I know what it feels like to worry about your child's development, to feel overwhelmed, and to wonder if you're doing enough. That lived experience means I can meet families with real empathy, not just clinical understanding. When I offer strategies and coaching, families often tell me, "You get it because you've been there." That trust and connection is something I don't take lightly, it's the foundation of everything I do.
-
I want families to know that they are not alone, and that the hard work they are already doing is seen and valued. I also wear many hats in my community, sunday school teacher, volunteer, caregiver, and all of those roles have shaped who I am as a practitioner. I show up for the people I work with the same way I show up in the rest of my life: with genuine care, consistency, and a lot of heart.
